Here is the 21-page pledge: GOP Pledge to America DRAFT
Just another pledge? Actually, it’s not as bad as I thought it would be, because they at least identify the problems at-hand. That’s the first-step. :p I give it a C.
The spending that is breaking the country isn’t something that just started since Obama took office. How about if we start finding real American candidates like Sharon Angle, Jason Chaffetz, Christine O’Donnell, Doug Hoffman, and Marco Rubio who know the value of a dollar? How about we fundraise for them? How about we keep our money and donate it directly to REAL CONSERVATIVE candidates, instead of running it through the GOP RINO-maker machine first?
As Monica Crowley said, “This is what you should be doing anyway. This is what we have always expected from you. This pledge is the minimum.” And offering this pledge 45 days before the election is almost ridiculous window dressing on a inept party! Why didn’t you make this pledge last year when the TEA Parties groups were getting started. So now, take your pledge farther, faster, and ram it down the Democrats throats. Please revise and resubmit.
There is one detail from the early released press information in The Pledge mades me really mad.
Reported that Republicans want to “Return spending to 2008 levels.”
But the closest I can find to in the pledge is this, “Since January 2009, President Obama and Congressional Democrats have enacted $680 billion in gross tax increases,…” found on page 7.
No, GOP! You still don’t get it. Returning spending to 2008 levels isn’t enough, unless they intent to do it immediately, and then continue to work to further reduce it to 1990’s levels. But since smaller government is better government, they could work to reduce it further. Let’s shrink government! Didn’t the Republican Party hear the American people yelling about George W. Bush’s out-of-control spending?? I guess not. To use an annoying Obama analogy, “you’ve already helped drive the car into the ditch”, let us (the American people) drive the car for a while.

Much of the pledge is good and the message should be spread far and wide. But other parts, as I’ve said, don’t go far enough. They only want to restore spending to 2008 levels?!?!?!? When I read that, I knew the GOP still aren’t listening. Check out the spending chart below.

Need I say more? [mocking tone] Returning spending to 2008 levels just doesn’t cut it!

Erik Erikson from RedState.com took a stab at the Pledge, too. He isn’t much kinder.
